MEETING SUMMARY

3. APPROVAL OF THE MEETING SUMMARY from 19 APR 06

4. REPORTS & UPDATES:
• Operations Update (programs, special events, rentals): Molly
Molly reported spring programs are in progress and going well. The temporary staff for spring is doing
a great job and having a Program Leader-in-Charge to float among stations has been an important addition to
the programs. The Moonlight Walk event was a success and the staff will be attending the upcoming Big
Spring Festival at Talleyrand Park in Bellefonte. Summer Intern Adam Spangler began work the week before
and planning for summer programs is in progress.
• Maintenance Update: Greg
Greg reported that Bryce took care of the pigeons in the barn. The ground outside that wetlab has been
graded and re-seeded and the donor signs throughout the marsh are being repaired. PCC crew is repairing the
Centre Furnace Stack.
• Wetlab Planning Update: Greg
Greg reported the masonry coating has been completed in the lab and there is an upcoming meeting
with HP Architects to continue development of the lab.
• Thompson Woods Subcommittee: Jennifer
Jennifer reported Alan Sam and Todd Litzinger are working on a base map of the site using GPS.
• Capital Campaign/Building Fund Updates
a. Major Donor Visits: Diane Kerly
Diane reported that major donors visits are still in progress and coming to an end as we prepare for the
next tier of visits.
b. Governmental Plan (COG, County, State): Rick Marboe
Rick reported the County will be approached with a $250,000 request in the upcoming months.
c. Capital Campaign Picnic Event at MMNC (Th, 25 May 06, 5-7 PM): Diane Kerly
Diane reported the Picnic Event was postponed until Spring Creek Day (17 Sept 06) due to low number
donors who could attend the event.
5. BUSINESS ITEMS
• Puddintown Road Bike Trail /Mitigation Project by College Twp.: Ron Woodhead
Ron reported that College Township is planning the Puddintown Road Bikepath. Phase One will start at
the bypass and end at Orchard Road. This construction will be bid by PennDOT pending DEP wetland permits
and approval. It has been proposed that the project also include an extension of the boardwalk in the marsh to
mitigate the effect of the bikepath being added through wetlands. Motion to endorse by Rick Marboe, Second
by Bob Ayer.
• 10-Year Anniversary Event Ideas for 2007 (The lease w/ PSU effective in January 1997): Molly
Molly requested the group begin brainstorming event ideas. Under discussion was creating a new mural
for the barn, having a scavenger hunt for families at the event, planning a reunion for kids who have attended
programs or camps, birthday cake for MMNC, inviting original planning committee members back, and getting
a speaker to come to the event to talk about the importance of the education programs at MMNC. This will
continue to be discussed at future meetings.
