Centre Region Parks & Recreation . . . Summer 2002

This report quantifies the many public recreation programs that took place this past summer. Programs represent one half of our service to each municipality; an equally important responsibility involves maintaining municipal park facilities for residents to utilize for recreation on their own . . . from impromptu picnics, to regional baseball league games, a relaxing walk, a game of bocce, or just playing in the creek at Spring Creek Park. Either way, it was another great summer for the agency and Centre Region residents. Parks & Recreation... the benefits are endless!

Supervised Playgrounds

Super-Duper-vised Playground Program
(Grades 3-8)

84 registrants at 3 sites

The“Super-Duper-vised Playground Program” offers children supervised sports, games, and activities at 3 area parks for seven weeks (9 AM-2 PM) on a drop-in basis. Due to tree work at Holmes-Foster Park, 2 sites operated in 2002. A fee of $40 was charged for the entire 7 weeks of the program.

Millbrook Marsh Nature Center

Millbrook Marsh Nature Center hosted programs by State College Area School District Community Education, ClearWater Conservancy, Cub Scout groups, Shavers Creek Environmental Center, CALL, Youth Service Bureau, Penn State Cooperative Wetlands Center, and Penn State University. Additional nature / educational, cultural, & historical programs will be held in the fall by CRPR and other organizations.
