The CRPR Youth Flyfishing for Bass Camp is a new program offered jointly with the PA Fish & Boat Commission for the first time this summer! This educational camp offers a great opportunity for experienced young fly-fishers and/or those who have completed the previous CRPR Fly-fishing Camp (cold water) to learn about fly fishing for warm water species such as panfish & bass. Skills taught will include warm-water ecology, fly-tying for panfish and bass, leader design and casting techniques, tips for bigger fish, and basic wading & canoeing skills. Students will also have the opportunity to travel to local warmwater venues to practice their skills and learn appropriate conduct by spending time on the water. Some canoeing will occur and a Swim Safety Screening at Welch Pool will be required for each participant (schedule TBA).
Equipment will be supplied during the camp, but campers are welcome to use their own tackle and waders. Some “wet-wading” will be involved. Health & Safety questions will be asked during registration (FYI, that PDF form is also available HERE). Please note: For this camp, participants should have basic flycasting skills, the ability to tie basic flies and the ability to set up their own fly tackle with knots & leaders. For casting safety, eyeglasses are required and must be furnished by each camper (Polarized lens are recommended). Campers must also furnish a daily lunch and daily refresments (no glass, please, and no refrigeration is available). Each camper should also provide raingear. It is noted that a PA Fishing License is required for those age 16 and over - although this camp is limited to those entering Grades 7-9.
Funding assistance is provided for this camp by a grant from the
PA Fish and Boat Commission “Sportfishing and Aquatic Resource Education” Grant Program.
Registration opened at 8:00AM on Monday, 12 May 08 and space was limited to 12 (boys and girls)!
