2008 CENTRE COUNTY SENIOR GAMES JUNE 3 - 25, 2008

The Centre County Senior Games are coordinated by Centre Region Parks & Recreation / Centre Region Senior Center. Enjoy the pleasures of bowling, softball throw, bocce, walking, basketball hot shot, golf and table tennis. FEE: $5/person. Registration Deadline: May 23. More information is available HERE.

House“Home Ownership: Make it a Benefit, not a Burden”

The Pleasure of Oil Painting Outdoors                Program # 53501

For intermediate-level students who want to paint outdoors. This class offers instruction in the use of oil paints that are water-soluble (for easier cleanup & no turpentine smell). Depending upon weather conditions, some classes may be held inside the Senior Center. Instructor: Anna Sahr     Thursdays, May 1-June 19, 1-4 PM   Fee: $50R / $75N.

Saturday, July 19 Bus trip to Jim Thorpe, PA - Come visit the "Switzerland of America" tour the Asa Packer Mansion, take a trip on the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, lunch in Victorian downtown Jim Thorpe and dinner in Bloomsburg on our way home. Social Card Games & Mah Jongg

Join us at the Senior Center for a friendly game of cards, or Mah Jongg, no partners needed! Mon., Wed., & Fri., 10 AM (Pinochle & Canasta, 500). FREE

A great way to spend the morning. No partner required, but call the Senior Center in advance to reserve a seat. Mondays, 9 AM - Noon. FREE

Senior Picnic

Enjoy this county-wide event at Tudek Park, on Friday, July 25 from 10:30 AM - 1:30 PM.  Advanced reservations required by July 10; transportation available within the Centre Region. Contact the Senior Center at 231-3076 for details.

Silver Spurs Line Dancers

No experience or partners needed! Join the FUN in the Center's dance room on Mon., Wed., & Fri. at 10:50 AM. They also meet on Tuesdays at Mt. Nittany Residence, 7 PM. FREE

PCThe PC Learning Lab
Come out and work in a relaxed environment and take advantage of the Center's one-on-one sessions, with knowledgeable and patient tutors. Tutors offer instruction in computer basics and help you work towards levels of greater proficiency. Instruction is available on weekdays by appointment. Fee: $3/hr.

Gentle Yoga 

Learn a progressive series of exercises that improve posture, ease arthritic pain, increase flexibility, and promote a sense of well-being. Instructor: Barbara Lindenbaum

Beginning Tai Chi(from the Arthritis Foundation)

This popular exercise is effective in promoting physical and mental well being. While scientific studies have proven that Tai Chi increases flexibility, muscular strength and fitness, it may also reduce joint pain and stiffness due to arthritis. This program is designed for individuals with/without arthritis and is safe for people of all ages. Instructor: Leslie Roberts, certified instructor.

Healthy Steps in Motion                Program # 55363

This low impact exercise program will work on improving balance, flexibility, strength and reduce the risk of falling, and can be done in a chair or standing. Participants will use hand-held weights and exercise bands, which will be provided. Mondays & Fridays, 10:15 - 11:15 AM. This on-going program is FREE.

Progressive Resistance Weight Training                  Program # 53301

Exercise using hand-held weights, leg weights, & therapeutic exercise bands (all equipment provided). Program is designed to increase muscle strength, bone density, and flexibility. Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 1 - Aug. 28 (18 classes); 11 AM - Noon. Fee: $8 R/$12N

Hiking Group (Tuesdays)

Enjoy a moderate hike in the great outdoors to various locations in and around State College. Tuesdays at 9 AM. FREE (except for car pool donations). Click here for details.
